Order of the god claw
“Righteousness by obedience.”
The Order of the God Claw is a Hellknight order which extols the virtues of five lawful deities, distilling select tenets into a dogma far from any one god’s faith.
Although the God Claw venerates aspects of Abadar, Asmodeus, Iomedae, Irori, and Torag, it is unclear from which of these gods it draws its power; indeed, it is possible that its own convictions grant it divine strength. Clerical signifers and other religious members of the order have access to the Glory, Law, Protection, Strength, and War domains.
Where other orders of Hellknights enforce their visions of law out of a sense of duty and grim necessity, the God Claw does so out of religious fervor and a belief that the world must forcibly
be set upon a righteous path. The sharp-tongued Lictor Resarc Ountor preaches his order’s iron-shod doctrine from its fortress Citadel Dinyar at the headwaters of the River Isled.
Organization & orders
The leader of a Hellknight order is known as the Lictor. Beneath him are the order’s Master of Blades (field commander) and Paravicar (leader of the order’s arcane/religious forces). Beneath them, paralictors (Hellknight officers), signifiers (Hellknight spellcasters), rank and file Hellknights, and armigers (Hellknights in training) flesh out the ranks.
There are numerous orders of Hellknights. The majority have holdings in Cheliax, but a few have expanded or moved to operate outside the country, most typically in regions formerly held by the empire. At the current time there are seven major orders:
Order of the Rack at Citadel Rivad near Westcrown
Order of the Scourge at Citadel Demain near Egorian
Order of the Nail at Citadel Vraid near Korvosa
Order of the God Claw at Citalde Dinyar in the Aspodell Mountains
Order of the Chain at Citadel Gheradesca near Corentyn
Order of the Gate at Citadel Enferac near Pezzack
Order of the Pyre at Citadel Krane near Ostenso
The messure and the chain
Those who wear the armor take in one hand the Chain and in the other hand the Measure.
The Chain guides us to the principle of Law. Discipline, Order, and Mercilessness.
The Measure is a record of crime and punishment. By considering the discipline doled out in the past, the Hellknight judges how to punish in the future.
By the hand of Abrogail Thune I, the Empire of Cheliax grants the Hellknight Orders autonomy from the laws of Cheliax so the Hellknight Orders might purge from the empire the cults and wickedness of disorder and dissent.
